    Default How to Improve FER

    Dear CDMA Expert Engineer.

    KPI Target for FER ( <= 2%) > 90 % ( same for Urban,Suburban,and Rural)
    As My Experience, I difficult to improve FER until meet KPI target. the others can meet KPI target like Rx_Power, Ec/Io,Txpower etc.
    What the reason can cause bad FER?
    How to more improve FER until meet KPI ?
    is rational for KPI target for FER (<=2%) > 90%? how about other operator? I want to compare

    what about RSSI ? is it within acceptable rang for these sites? for my experience FER<= 2%) > 90 % as a target is high and cant be easy utilized.

    to improve the FER you can try the following:

    1- reduce the overlab between the sites (antenna para optimization).
    2- check and confirm the RSSI/VSWR/BER
    2- modify the FER traget in BSC side to 1% if it is 2% (Note: if your network is loaded will affect the capacity)
    3- modify the Eb/Nt to optimum value
    3- modify fast forward power control according to sites requirents.

    Good lock

    Thanks a lot aosan,

    please guide me as I;m newbie in CDMA
    what's Voice Call RX_Power & TX_power?
    what's the optimum value for these parameters? and whow to acheive it?

    Thanks in advabce

    in general CDMA Voice Call/ 1X DATA, RX_Power >= -95dbm and TX_power<= 0dbm

    it depend to your drive test analysis and KPI. if your vendor is Huawei then you could have RF parameters tuning guide...i have it somewhere in my HD..i will look for it then share it if possible.

    to improve the FER you should check the Ec/Io overall coverage during cluster dt. If Ec/Io > -8 dB (@90% coverage) is less than the target kpi, that's the time that you should optimize the physical side.... are you an RF sir? and in what country? (please add reputation if this one is helpful) thanks

    Hello Kurdi, from your explanation, you said that Rx Level, Tx Level and Ec/Io are all good and within threshold but FER is still bad.

    If that is the case then the problem can be related to
    1) Hardware problems
    ----Need to check the clocking - (BCKM Board + GPS), this however would affect all sites connected to the BSC

    ----Need to check VSWR alarm on the sites showing poor FER

    Hope you find this useful.........

    Regards
