Re: Same laptop for work and personal
For me, Virtual machines works best with work as the VM guest.
I sometimes need to exchange files between work and personal so VMs make that easy.
Also handy to have both work and personal active at the same time, especially when I'm expecting personal email or using messaging apps.
If the app in the VM is underperforming, I can change VM guest settings to increase processors and/or memory.
Easy to copy/backup the VM to keep work happy,
My work are happy with the way the VM is firewalled and protected from my home network, keeps them happy.
Tried dual boot which was great for performance but for me, I didn't need all the performance.

Re: Same laptop for work and personal
Work setup the VM which is Virtualbox.
For processor and memory changes, I have to shutdown the VM then change the settings for the VM and reboot. They allow me to make those changes.
I don't think they did any changes to the firewall on my laptop (I can't see anything obvious) and the VM uses NAT which means it doesn't have a path to my network.
Not sure on all the technical aspects of the "firewalling" but I know they are happy with it.
Been doing it for about 4 years.

Dell Latitude 5450
16GB RAM
Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 5 135U, 2100 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 14 Logical Processor(s)
When I need to do intensive processing beyond what the laptop is capable of, I remote desktop to one of work's desktop computers at the office.
