    Post Calculating Signal strenghts in different frequency bands

    Fellow experts out there,

    What is the equation/factors used to calculate a signal level or received power levels between different bands
    For example what is the equivalent signal level of -96dBm (1800 GSM) in 2100 and say 3G?
    Can you please enlighten me.

    Friis equation: 20 log10 (f1/f2), the higher frequency the higher losses

    Another point is that you cannot compare the same signal level with different technologies. The same absolute value for signal level has not the same signal quality in GSM and WCDMA.
    In order to compare the same signal value I would say that you need to do two different link budgets and so compare how a especific signal value has different coverage on the technology chosen.

    Eric, the SS will depend on the frequency, clutter (terrain + morphology), the placement of antenna(antenna height of BS and UE). If the antenna height is above the average roof top level, then it is a macro-cell. If not, it is a microcell. You need to select an appropriate propagation model based on the type of cell and frequency range supported.

    Its logaritmic of the frequency band, in general 1800 and 2100 MHz should has similar signal strength.

    But, dear my friend,

    How about affect of modulation of technologies? Example LTE1800MHz is different from GSM1800MHz...
    So, I think begin from Pathloss Formulation is the better way...
