Post IP-50FX Disaggregated wireless backhaul router from Ceragon

    Hi all,

reading Ceragon's information I'm not sure that I understand how and when this router is used. Do you have more information about it?

    Thanks.

according the description, this is an indoor extender.
for those customers who use ...for example ipasso.

probably, for many installations, ethernet switch - it will be cheaper
and more functional and more reliable.

but I could be wrong. write your opinions.

    Ceragon mentions the following:

"The IP 50FX utilizes radio-aware networking capabilities, such as layer-1 carrier bonding over Ethernet, SyncE, 1588-TC/BC and ETH-BN."

So, I think that it can't be replaced from an ethernet switch. I understand that an ethernet switch can support SyncE, 1588-TC/BC and ETH-BN but what about the layer-1 carrier bonding over Ethernet?

the IP-50FX is not just an L2 switch, its an L3 IP/MPLS router that is build according to TIP (Telecom Infra Project) requirements and utilizes a disaggregated architecture where a COTS HW is used and a SW block installed on it. The IP-50FX will consist of HW and SW developed by Ceragon, but can utilize any L3 NOS from any other vendor. This disaggregated approach breaks monolithic systems and will allow operators to be more flexible in deploying their networks. On top of the L3 NOS a Ceragon app will integrate their IP-50 Full-Outdoor radios as Radio Heads, managed via a central unit.
Also, the IP-50FX will support L1 carrier bonding over GE ports (doesnt matter if 1GE or 10GE ports) and no matter if another equipment is connected to the ports or Ceragon radios

Aviat and SIAE have two IDUs Platform able to work on layer3
SIAE AGS20 IDUs family (modular AGS20 L or AGS20 M versions or Pizza box AGS) available with L3 IP/MPLS and L1 aggregation (on Radio IF ports and-or on 1/10G ports) on market from 2018
AVIAT CTR IDU family available with L3 IP/MPLS even before SIAE (2016-17)

    about Infra Project :
SIAE and AVIAT are member from origin , Ceragon joint recently

yes, AVIAT and SIAE have IP/MPLS IDUs, however, those work with their own ODUs only as far as i know. What Ceragon does is to use a flexible model that consists of an COTS HW and a SW part to provide both a stand-alone Router or a L3 IDU. Any ODU that works with Ethernet can be connected to this IP-50FX IDU, no matter if it is Ceragon ODU or Eriscsson or whatever

It's because Ceragon new ODUs (50 family) are not just ODU but FullOutdoor (expensive as a full outdoor ) ..ALCATEL MPR approach
SIAE and Aviat families can work IP/MPLS with any device connected with IDU internal switch and his IF connected ODUs too

but traditional Split-Mount is almost at the end of its life. Only a few operators still like Split-Mount, the majority goes All-Outdoor? Why? Because of lower power consumption, less footprint, reduced OPEX as no shelter, no AC is required. I think the Full Outdoor has a bright future in wireless telecom, Split-Mount not. Who is still installing IF-cables nowadays?

this is something will heppend in 10 years maybe
Today : fulloutdoor global market is around 16% , 6% all indoor , all the remaining is Split !!! (78%! Skylight official report, not a estimation but real counts )
Progession on FO is very slow and weak ..in 5 Years it could reach barely 18-19% (estimated)
I can say "unfortunately"..I agree with you.. I prefere Fulloutdoor..but personal dreams are not real situations

" Split-Mount is almost at the end of its life!" ..no way CR
