UE category and Maximum spatial layer support
Hi, Is there anyone know about "Maximum number of supported layers for spatial multiplexing in DL" which been defined in 3GPP
According to the column, what do they mean "2 or 4"?
For instance, Does it mean UE Cat6 can have to types of UE which support 2 and 4 layer?
http://www.3gpp.org/keywords-acronyms/1612-ue-category
Thx

Good afternoon! Your drawing is not visible! Can you update it again?

Hi I cannot paste the picture, but just wonder about the column "Maximum number of supported layers for spatial multiplexing in DL" which stands for the number of mimo. Its said "2 layer or 4 layers", i dont know exactly what it means.
any reference of this explanation would be highly appreciate.
Thx

Re: UE category and Maximum spatial layer support
This means MIMO 2x2, MIMO 4x4, respectively

It means how many "data stream" can be supported by UE.

Hi, I was asking about the meaning of "2 layer or 4 layers",
Does it mean this UE Cat xx can have 2 types
1.Can support only 2 layer
2.Can support 4 layer (Which can definitely support 2 layer)
????

UE cat 6 can support to maximum ~300 Mbps. It can get this value from (2 Carriers 20 MHz x 64 QAM x 2 layers) or (1 Carrier 20 MHz x 64 QAM x 4 layers).
It means UE cat 6 can support 2 layers or 4 layers or both 2 layer and 4 layers.
In reality, UE capability depends much on RF band. E.g UE cat 6 has 4 layers on band 3, but it supports only 2 layers on another band.

UE CAT mainly focuses on maximum bitrate. Then there are some techs to help UE get that.
