When Alcatel and Lucent Technologies merged they also bought the 3G RAN product line from Nortel.

As it didn't make sense to have three 3G RAN product lines under one company they picked Nortel's one as the one to develop further and support.

The other two are being swapped out wherever they are deployed and are not being further developed.
