    Default UE category

    Hello All,
first post for me . I will be using a variety of test handsets for my Hsdpa throughput testing and wondered if I can look at the layer 3 messages to confirm what capability the handset has in terms of codes/ modulation etc. I know there's tables available to say what capability each handset category has but how do I confirm which category the handset falls into?

    Thanks

    Gramps.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. I have the tables already that defines what each category of handset is capable of. I was specifically looking for the messages in layer 3 where I could see the handset category when I am analysing data from handset. If I am testing with different handset then I'd like to check the layer 3 and identify which category it is from there. We have different test handsets and I'd like to make sure I know which category they all are.

btw I don't have enough permissions yet to view the attachments.

    Many thanks

    Hi Gramps,

the information you are looking for is in the RRC Connection Setup Complete (UL-DCCH).Part of which is shown below.

The hsdsch-physical-layer-category shows this UE has a catergory of 8.

    rrcConnectionSetupComplete-v590ext
    ue-RadioAccessCapability-v590ext
    dl-CapabilityWithSimultaneousHS-DSCHConfig : kbps128
    pdcp-Capability-r5-ext
    supportForRfc3095ContextRelocation : False
    rlc-Capability-r5-ext
    totalRLC-AM-BufferSize : kb300
    physicalChannelCapability
    fdd-hspdsch : supported
    hsdsch-physical-layer-category : 8

    cheers
