I also like using Google earth to see prop delays, terrain profiles, etc. But I think it can't replace M.I., how do you plan neighbour lists, Bcchs & Scrmb Codes ??? If you do it with G.E., please let me know how !!!
Thnx.

Re: Alternative tool to MapInfo
There is no such nice and compact alternative to MapInfo. It is GIS tool so alternatives would be tools from ESRI (ArcGIS) or AutoDesk. These tools are all too large to be used on a single machine. There are several planning tools that are using ESRI platform as GIS platform (similar what Planet is doing with MApInfo). These tools are even better than MapInfo but much complicated. If you need to change projection, to make raters etc... Global Mapper is very, very good tool.

Mapinfo is a bit hard in the beginning but once you know how to use it it's the best.
