Huawei knocks off E******* as world’s biggest telecom vendor

This has to happen because NSN has started kicking off it's many projects.
NSN left most of Asian countries (Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan etc) and the market there has been grabbed by Huawei or ZTE. Huawei was world market leader in 3G before and was on 2nd number in 2G market.
but now it's number 1 from revenue point of view in 2G and 3G as well.

Currently many LTE projects have been won by ZTE in middle east market so ZTE is now becoming a challenge for Huawei and this is good for Operators because they can further bring down prices because of competition amongst chinese vendors.

Yes of course, When Huawei is becoming the market leader then don't expect good salaries, Even if Huawei is having a good profit margin they never facilitate their employees, This is because of chinese culture.

BTW: Telecom is the least paid profession inside China!

Exactly! And it's not just the chinese vendors that are causing this.

What really strikes me that lately no one is looking at anything other than the price, when choosing the equipment. Forget about tech specs, references, tech support, after sale support. Forget even about support for local industry (for example they chose Huawei over E/// in Swe).
I guess booming telco industry attracted a lot of @ssholes which took over management positions. They're making these short-term decisions based on short-term profit, disregarding losses on the medium to long run, just so they can get their bonus before they move elsewhere.

Mobile industry is a fast growing field and as you said, surely attract a lot of vulture,...(like banking/finance)...But in the long run, they will weed themselves out...as it becomes mature...Hopefully, the technically sound & highly skilled people can survive during this mean time now...Inch'Allah!!! HW, ZTE drives down the prices a lot...but they have issues to retain good people and the after-sale services still need to iron out...

Actually European/American vendors like NSN, E*******, Alcatel were facilitating their employees and retaining the employee was the best practise they were adopting but now with chinese vendors they have totally different startegy!

HW/ZTE doesn't have professional culture & they don't care about employees, Customer is God for them. One more thing is that from technology point of view chinese vendors have improved a lot!!
Like the traces they provide are not available with other vendors so easily, ZTE has the industry best SDR technology which even HW doesn't have by now.
So we can't say that chinese vendors are backward in race of technology because they have strong RnDs now!

But overall telecom is becoming more and more tough for professional employees to live!
