    Dear
This is Huawei Protocol in transmission they encapsulate the IP packets over the E1 2Mb
lINKS instead of IP over ethernet (usuall case ) this is used whenevr using ABIS IP as an example
Old ABIS links are over E1 so when use ABIS over IP they need IP over E1

Old method to transport Ethernet with MW is to have old PDH equipment with bridge card to map ETH over E1, now all vendors have hybrid or pure packet MW solutions, if you need to connect NodeB or LTE to Core NW which are IP based, you must have ETH port on RBS site (which you have on all new MW equipment) to transport IP to core NW. IP is L3 protocol and needs L2 protocol to transport it, like ATM or ETH, so IP over E1 may be is trade/market name from some vendor of ETHoverPDH
