Hi Experts,

I have a problem on the 2G to 3G cell reselection on the country border areas. I have tried to compare all the parameters for reselection to other cells and other BSC but I found no inconsistency. The problem is intemittent in nature as we can get cell reselection sometimes. So I guess the cell parameters are ok. When I checked on TEMS DT, I found that there are so many attempts to reselect but none of them is not going all the way through to 3G.

What seems to be the problem, and how can I solve the issue.

Have you analyzed scanner and coverage in the area? Since it is country border, you might be suffering from the network from the neighboring country. These fluctuations look like there is a problem with the coverage from the other country that is leaking into your area. If this is the case, est solution is to write to the national regulator to complain to the neighboring national agency since such cases are solved by CEPT recommendations.

Check the MSC logs and some times the LAC of UMTS may kept as forbiden for your PLMN

For faster cell reselection you can create neighbor definition 2G to 3G.

Actually we are having reselection from 3G to 2G but it is taking at least 10-20mins. Will there be still possibilty that LAC is forbidden?

Neighbors and UMFI are defined properly,..Is there a timer in the BSC that triggers 2G to 3G reselection(idle mode).

I have checked all of this parameter, the only difference is I set SPRIO=YES, FDDQMIN=5, FDDRSCPMIN=6. And all BA UMFI are defined correctly in IDLE. When I tried to check the TEMS logfiles, there is a cell reselection procedure(a lot of times) but it is not going through 3G successfully. What do you think should I check next.
