I'm a Transmission Engineer In the UK.

My role is to install and maintain the high capacity underground cables (both fibre optic and copper) as part of the communications system, both telephone and Internet.

Additionally I am involved in the maintenance of the hardware that links all the cells in a mobile phone system together

I am also involved in the planning of state of the art communication systems to expand the system to meet future needs.

Additionally I (and my colleagues) act to advise countries in the 3rd world on how to bring their communications into the 21st. century.

Never a boring job.
