Anyone who has successful to enable 2G to 3G Inter-System handover, please kindly share.

I was doing bench-marking and get few HO from 2G to 3G (mobiles were in dual mode).

We do it a lot, to unload busy GSM cells. Not with Huawey.

To prevent ping pong: observe MSC/VLR stats and try to keep it below 10%.
First, it must work: quite some parameter game, including CS_core.
Then, focus on parameters. 2g to 3g and 3g to 2g criteria are not same, so it is not
easy to tune. Beside documentation, do some trials with TEMS and traces.

3g KPIs will be a bit worse: calls moving from GSM to UMTS are more likely to drop.
There is a reason why they were started on 2g... Or they were moved to GSM from 3g.
So we demand very good 3g signal (both RSCP and EcNo) in order to start handover.

On the end, you can expect some 3 to 4 % increase of CS traffic on UTRAN, depending
on your coverage, of course.

Hi,

I made some trial about this 2G to 3G ISHO but in NSN netwroks.
Actually the result is below the expected because it may increase the drop call due to ping pong ho was increaseing and doesnt absorb too much traffic only few since the 3G has about 25-30 dB path loss difference comparing to 2G so its not quite good recommendation to activate this.
Usually we push more traffic to 3G by idle mode (reselection), by modifying the FDD Q offset, FDD RSCP Min FDDQ MIN, Q search I to a small value that more attract to 3G Service but still acceptable.

HO IRAT 2G to 3G is possible, i did trial in NSN RNC and Siemens BSC.
We need to consider many things :
1. Check the 2G MSC version, if it still R99 MSC so we need to upgrade the MAP version 3, if the MSC already MSC Server/Rel 4, so dont need to check the MAP version.
2. Check the MSC for both 2G and 3G, whether they are defined in the same MSC or different MSC
3. External LAC of 3G should be created in 2G MSC in case the different MSC
4. enable the 2G to 3G IRAT switch on BSC
5. dont forget to set aggresive parameter since 3G coverage is much less than 2G so we need to define aggresive parameter, eg the HO margin minimum -30 dB or less, last time i put -63 dB

Then the result is --- not recommended to be activated, why since the 3G coverage is much less than 2G, so it will generate Ping Pong HO, and it will lead unnecessary HO and signalling

Good for PS services only.
Some network disable it for CS services.

dear , you can try this when you have enough capacity in the wcdma, becase people prefer 3G for high speed data connection, where as the 2G main objective to provide voice service. so transfern the 2G call to 3g wilL results In occupancy of 3G soft aswell as hard capacity. it may result poor data speed for the data connection user..
