Will it fly, or will it not? Time will tell.
It is though a way for the operators to put pressure on the big vendors (regarding cost).
The main problem remains with these CoTS initiatives - performance and power consumption, and maturity is still not close.
in the future OpenRAN could be the end to own brands as E or Huawei however it is so far.
Would appreciate discussions on maturity of OpenRAN. Rakuten has commercial launch date of June 2020 for their 5G OpenRAN network. Doesn't seem that far out.
With the insight I have, I would say the maturity is far away from the traditional providers.
