2G-3G Reselection

Dears,

Which counters in Huawei 2G System could be used to indicate we have problem in
2G-3G Reselection "as normally Handover from 2G to 3G is disabled"

- Relseection mean UE is in idle mode; not has any connection to network => UE do the reselection by itself. After Reselection success ue send LU message. In 3G RRC message has establishment cause "Inter-RAT cell re-selection". So base on this KPI attempt and success you can find the problems in reselecton from 2G to 3G.Ex if there are not any atts may be due to : not have neighbors, wrong SC/UARFCN, wrong NCC MNC..

without looking in docs:
In general, terminal in idle mode (and active, where enabled) receives proper information and scans for UMTS cells.
to move, there are several different algorithms, running in paralell:
- classic R99 with silly average over 6 cells compared to RSCP of UMTS cell
- changed R99 with a bit different meaning of parameters (4GPP Rel-4 I think)
- we might consider EcNo as well
- with LTE: RAT priorities: move to 3G if good enough
- after 3g/2g handover you can have "fast return to UTRAN" to avoid LAU/RAU in networks without common LA

So, different terminals behave differently.
Then: if you have common LA, then terminals when moving to 3G have to do RAU, otherwise it is combined LAU/RAU.

It is not just one algorithm, it is few of them. And it is not easy to get simmilar behaviour for all possible combination.

If you do handovers in active mode, then you can base decision only on measurements, or you can consider cell load as well.

To summarize: 3GPP standard are complex with many possibilities in different releases, and vendors have different implementations.

From 2G, you cannot have any counters to monitor 2G-3G reselection as same is in idle mode, However in 3G you can check counters like RRC Connection request with established cause "Inter-RAT cell reselection"

Could some one share sample log-file for 2G-3G Reslection
Just to check "layer messages"
