SDCCH Handover as the name implies is an MS handover from one cell to the other in SDCCH phase.

This is usually disallowed by most optimizers and networks as well owing to the fact that SD phase is very short(3secs) so very high possibility of experiencing an SD drop.

I work on ALU and would rather use a Forced Directed Retry...here the MS does a handover from SDCCH on serving cell to TCH on another cell which is preferrable.

Kindly let me know if you have any other concerns or questions.

Disadvantage of SDCCH HO are more than advantage as SDCCH is used for signalling so needclean radio condition as BCCH is most reliable channel to put SDCCH but when you able SDCCH HO t may cause you SDCCH drop, congestion.

Hi RAJMEENA,

SD HO ALLOWED is always Recommended/Default as NO (for HUAWEI Settings) as settings eventhough it has No Explanations what so ever is the advantage or disadvantage mentioned in their soft Manual.

But if I find or read one on their Hard/Book Manual tonight I will reply again for additional info whatsoever.

I feel there is no advantage for enabling SDCCH HO in Network, infant they are very limited per Cell. <BTS> . For any service e.g. voice, SMS etc SDCCH allocation is performed and then TCH is allocated. This means without SDCCH allocation, TCH cannot be allocated for any service.

As earlier said SDCCH is limited compared to TCH per TRX <BTS>, allowing HO in SDCCH can only create/ invite congestion degrading all other Network KPI.

Hi RAJMEENA,

As I promised, this is the explanation(below) I read when you set YES this SD HO ALLOWED.

Configuration Policy:
When the authentication and ciphering procedures are enabled on the existing network, this parameter can be set to Yes.

Hi,

Thanks for the update, yes HO is possible on SD...however it is not recommended in live network .....as this could result in poor RNP... :(
