I think external antenna use only scanning mode for scan interference on BCCH channel .... .When drive test for check coverage and quality can't use external antenna.

Thank you, but the ideal external antenna should be 1-2 dBi (cause there some loss by cable and adapter from them to the external antenna connector in the handset).

There are a number of external antenna with various gain, so you could choose the suitable one.

However, I don't know why K800 (TEMS 8 handset) can use ext. antennas, but C702/W760 cannot.

I found most of the phones has the port for external antenna on the PCB,but mostly not available for external use.

I agreed. If we are using the external / additional antenna / accessories to get a better result it means we wouldn't be able to get the real coverage and quality at the actual condition. This will not presenting the performance of the actual system.

Using the external antennae will show the on-street radio conditions. Taken them out will actually reveal the in-car RF. Adding attenuators can be used for design verification of indoor environments through drive test. So there's no real rule for/against usage of external antennae - it is up to what you want to measure.

I hope someone can help me.

The Z750 has a small hole on the back above the external antenna connector. Can't find a Z750 external antenna cable anywhere though. Does anyone have photos of the cable or know where I can get one from. Also might a cable from another SE phone work?

Many Thanks:)

The phones you mentioned can be purchased form supplier with or without external antenna adapters. It's up to what you order.

I already have a z750 without an antenna & so was looking for an external antenna adapter that I could use when I wanted to use the phone as a scanner for panning in donor antennas. The Tems external adapter looks to be permanent so I didn't want to go with that. Will try gsmman2006 and report back.

z750 - my favourite. And yes, the external adapter provided by Ascom is permanent.

Back to the z750 - I tried to connect an external antenna to that build in adapter that's got on it's back. I've used the antenna cable that normally comes with the k800 TEMS craddles. It looked good and stable, it even clicked. But the measurements showed the same values as for no antenna setup, meaning it didn't work.

However I hope you find your solution.

Many thanks D33TOX, now I know that the connector is the same I can play around. I have read the SE service manuals for several phones trying to see if the connector looks the same but wasn't sure. I will try out with an old dead z750 I have to see what can be done. The z750 service manual shows an external adapter being used which is a nice small adapter with a female SMA connector. No idea where to get that from though.

I did find a company in Australia that can provide these adapters for AUD $20 each plus shipping.

I also promised to come back on here and update when I had tried them out. Just not had the time for this yet.
I did order a couple of the adapters though and hopefully next weekend or the week after I can spend a bit of time and try them out properly.
