Self Organizing Network (SON)

An evolution technology from optimization in LTE is SON (Self Organizing Network). This optimization has been widely deployed in RAN optimization. But, is SON optimization is realized by some operators or vendors like ZTE or Huawei? Because, I never seen about SON. Optimization that I know is about optimization with drive test and walk test.

as far as i know there are some operators using SON from 3rd party in Indonesia, also most likely their SON part closely to planning, cell healing,compensation, etc.

Hi Luthfi,

LTE SON features are pretty much same in all the vendors;

ANR automatic neighbor relation
ES energy saving
ICLB - inter carrier load balancing
PCI collusion detection etc.

There are SON solutions provided by 3rd party companies, complementary to existing vendor functions like PCI planning, RSI planning, neighbor RL banning, external definition fix, cross feeder check, intra carrier load balancing, self healing etc.

Vendor SON is loaded in the OSS, it is called distributed SON. 3rd party companies use centralized SON to see and optimize the network for all the vendors and technologies. Both of them have advantages and disadvantages like vendor SON uses almost live measurement data for the algorithms where centralized SON uses pm files, trace data or command outputs from OSS/NMSs with some delay.

Yes, Almost all RAN vendor has DSON (Distributed SON) and third party CSON such as PI Works USON, CISCO SON, Cell Wize. Also Huawei has SON Master which was last time has limited function compare another SON Supplier
