Dear All,

As we all know CA is for increased communication bandwidth and in turn increased user throughput.
CA configuration has network thresholds based on A6 events for Secondary cell additions etc.

Now assume we have a Ue having only normal browsing requirement and there is no high data rate for downloading requirement.
In this case actually, the Ue doesn't need any SCC additions since PCC alone is more than enough for the users browsing needs. Is there any consideration for the Users requirement when CA is configured..If so , what are the associated parameters for the same?

Assume the serving cell has 4 CA capability, will 4 CA be configured blindly if all network thresholds for CA are met even though the Ue doesn't require a wider CA bandwidth or SCCs.In that case it will be signaling overload for PCC and inturn resource wastage right?

Can any experts put some light on this?

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

Actually if you have blind CA activation mode active then all SCells will be active as even the browsing generates enough data to activate CA in some cases, But better to download bigger files from external or FTP servers. Configuration of Scells is one part, Activation depends upon the data buffer data, CQI threshold/SINR of serving cells in some latest features.

Hi

which vendor ? usually we can set thresholds for secondary cell activation.

E******* or Nokia what are the thresholds

databuffer thresholds are having which default values as per industry stds?

On Huawei, you can configure the active buffer length and throughput thresholds, so you can finetune at which speed you will activate the SCCs. You can even configure AMBR if you want to limit CA to higher tier packages, but I dont see this very useful.

About the PCC overload: you can do CA group based config instead of frequency based config, in this case the enodeb can configure any carriers as PCC if the UE is close enough (signal quality requirements are met). For example if you have 800M+1800M on freq based config 800M will always be the PCC, while in CA group based mode the enodeb can select 1800M as PCC if the UE is close enough. This also gives better utilization of the higher freq carriers, and in this case its uplink will also be better utilized.
