Hi
I wanna talk/comment about some optimizations in modern microwave technologies in order to let them to better fit the application of Fast exchange trading market

What is needed for such application is basically ..... Lowering the Latency

What's needed to experience the lowest latency end-to-end in a MW chain?
Choices to evaluate--> traffic interfaces , modem technology , buffering , radio corrections methods/performances , radio performance and network design

in general options to reduce latency can be summarized in :
- use of high speed interfaces (traffic / radio)
- reduce the contribution of interleaving, correctors, buffers or smart "forwarding" policy
- use of small frame size
- use internal shorter path avoiding useless DSP
- use High Sysgain Hardware
- optimize the number of the Hops and care in network design

I now that AVIAT and SAF are offering some product optimized in such market

other experiences?

Hi simog

Interesting post - I'm currently working on such a project. I can't give you too much on what it takes because I'm contracted to secrecy.

Distances are key - about 5.3microseconds per mile. And that is what we're talking about here, the race to the lowest latency & microseconds matter. Here in the UK there are a handful of operators & they have the best sites, 2 operators are battling over the 'KEF' project, to build a massive mast on the coast to save a few microseconds. Quite a few operators are on Houtem - an old NATO tower in Belgium, which was bought by a single operator for 5 million euro. That's normally the build cost of a whole network.

others things you mentions are all correct, too. And the radio environment & frequency used (noise floor) are also a consideration because you want to avoid re-transmits.

im not privy to the costs of connectivity to the end customers but I imagine it's high.

All lf these networks have a fibre backup, and Hollow Core fibre will hopefully bring latencies by fibre down to those of microwave in the near future. As yet nobody has built a network of hollow core fibre but it won't be long :)

dear Jss671

thank to sharing your points

I didn't get the reference to "hollow core fibers" , that ,as far I know, are fibers dedicated to short distance due to the high level of attenuation per meter.

I want also to add new players in HFT microwave game
... I already reported SAF and Aviat , I can add Cielo Network (not Ciena), escapecommunication and Exalt

if some other users knows other products offer please report here

Hi,

maybe EM Clarity can help. They partner with SIAE on ultra low latency MW links. I am not fully sure about it but Russian Micran is always willing to customize their solution for individual clients' needs.
