Hi Guys,

I'm discovering LTE. I have some questions need you to help me

- The coverage of LTE depend on which is the factors? (exclude antenna: tilt, azimuth, antenana typpe). The coverage depend on Bandwitdh or not?
- in case, I use scanner to test the LTE coverage. If BW=10 Mhz, but I setting scanner to measurement 5 Mz, 10 Mhz and 20 Mhz. Is there difference about the received signal in each case?
- What is the typical minimum signal of RSRP to access network and ensure service (-120 dBm?)
- Can we change power for RS signal to increase/decrease coverage (like CPICH power in 3G)?

Thanks!

Hi,

Below my response :

1- LTE coverage depends on RS power (like CPICH in 3G)
2 - No the received signal is the same because the UE calculates the RSRP as the average of received power from the RS.
3 - its -140 but typically we set it to -124.
4 - Yes we can increase/decrease coverage by boosting/deboosting RS.

Hi,

Thanks for your quickly answer.

About second answer: in case: BW=10 Mhz, but scanner is set 5 Mhz to measure. I Think that the number of measured RS symbols (5 Mhz) will be less than BW=10 Mhz. So The result is not accurately? how do you think about that?

BR,

When we talk about coverage it`s needed to remember we have two parts of coverage. One in DL and one in UL.
So the important thing is Radio Link Balance.
So busting DL coverage could lead to link imbalance i.e. no UL coverage at the edge of DL coverage.
It`s true not only for LTE.

It's a linear average of all measured RS. so you have 100 RS or 50, it give you the same, because all RS have the same power

Hi,

I known all RS symbols are same power but path loss is diffrence at the each frrequency. So I think that the received signal at UE will have a little diffrence.

Even if you have 10Mhz band still the frequency difference between the RS on one edge of the band Vs the Frequency difference on the other edge is not that much and has very negligible impact on the coverage/Path loss difference..

Hi,

If your amplifier power is fixed, changing the bandwidth will change power per RE/RS and will influence your coverage.

Hi

If you increase bandwidth than your RB increase.so eventually Power is divided over the RE which in turn results in lower signal strength.

hi,,

for coverage(exlude antenna), bandwitdh, RRU Power, PB, PA, are include in RS Power configuration,
if you want setting coverage from RS power you must now the formula below :
Psingle Port = PRRU - 10*log(Nport)

RS Power = Psingle port -10*Log(12*Nrb)+10*log(1+Pb)

if you change the bandwith but not change RS power you change the coverage too..
