Modern mobile phones are very complex systems containing a number of quite substantial
subsystems. For example, a standard mobile phone may contain an audio subsystem, a
telephony subsystem, a camera, a packet switched modem, a web browser and Internet
protocol stack, a java engine and so on. Each subsystem needs to be tested to make sure
that it works in its own right, but the system needs to be tested as a whole. That is, the
interactions between subsystems – intended or incidental – also need testing. This gives rise
to a number of different testing strategies and methods that are used throughout the process
of developing UEs.
