Hi :

Which strategy is more effective when you have multiple carrier in UMTS network ?

strategy :1st carrier is for voice and R99 ,2nd carrier for HSDPA

Strategy : 2 carriers accpet voice ,R99 & HSDPA (random selection)

And what are the cell-selection and cell-reselection parameters we need to tune to make it possible ?

What if you have 3 carriers , what is the recommended

Hi,

It is always better to have all services in all carriers . By this strategy there will be efficient use of RAN resources and interference level balancing which is very important in W-CDMA.

For 3rd carrier there is complex decisions and it depend to having continues 3rd carrier coverage or island coverage existence. Please specify your case i would help further.

Hi,

Well, First or all to clarify the case i have to say that such strategy is vendor independent.

One of the best strategies to avoid having Inter frequency measurement or unnecessary compressed mode trigger is that try to reserve 3rd carrier and only use it for HSDPA purpose (If you do not have code congestion in 1st and 2nd carrier for R99) and only use 3rd carrier for HSDPA (no call set up will be done on 3rd carrier and no speech will be there) and utilize the 3rd carrier by HSDPA inter frequency load sharing(HS-IFLS) feature.

Considering HSDPA Multi carrier capability, you will only have it on 1st and 2nd carrier then 3rd carrier normally will be under utilized, because HS Cell re-selection mechanism always considers a re-selection to cells with higher capability hence while tuning HS-IFLS you need to consider this point to make a balance between number of users in different carriers. Let me know if you have any ambiguity

Hi,
Strategy "all services in all carriers" is also possible for 3 carriers. You can use DRD-feature to "spread" traffic between carriers, use only intra-freq relations between sites and inter-freq relation with Blind HO between different carriers in each sector. It's quiet easy to manage such strategy.

Hi,

As far as i remember DRD works to offload 3G speech traffic to GSM. In E******* it called Directed Retry and in Huawei it called DRD. But all service in all carrier is possible of course it depend to network needs.

Hi,
We are using the proposed strategy by Vitalyk, and it's working fine, u can make balance between carriers using load balance feature (Z feature)

thx
