3G Throughput - No. of FTP downloads relation

Hi,

While conducting drive test with single FTP download, Throughput relies in the range of 3-4 mbps, but by introducing simultaneous downloads in same radio conditions throughput increases up by 5-7 mbps. My question is vendor says it is its profile nature and thread related. What does that mean and how simultaneous downloads shows improved throughput than for a single file download. DT used is Agilent & TEMS & vendor is Huawei & ZTE. Thanks in advance.

Downloading many files simultaneously can often increase FTP speeds because
each file requires its own connection to be established.
For example, you can download a single file at 100 KB/s,
but you should be able to achieve speeds of 1 MB/s.
If you download 10 files simultaneously,
each should be able to reach their 100 KB/s peak,
resulting in a total download speed of 1000 KB/s.

This happens in core netwrok where the IP network because you are using the network bandwidth more effectively :
for example : as you mentioned before the Gateway can utilize a bandwidth of 1Mb . if every single FTP connection has 100 KBPS so it is utilizing the 1 of 10 of the total bandwidth, more 9 connections at the same time can utilize the remaining of bandwidth 9 of 10 of bandwidth theoretically consequentlly.

It actually coming from HSDPA scheduler mostly ;

One of the often occurred scenario is when u are downloading several files simultaneously you are actually using several PQ (Priority queue ) in HSDPA scheduler and increasing usage of radio resources and in fact it increased HSDPA multi carrier probability as well(Secondary HS-DSCH due to high activity and demand would not go to DTX mode).
