Dear RF experts,

Why an operator should choose LTE TDD and not FDD and vice versa ?

Based on which criteria/requirement ?

If band is expensive and UL data trend is considerably less than DL, it makes a strong case for TDD.

Because LTE TDD need less frequency than FDD, so save cost

Its depend also on goverment rule, they separate frequency band for each operators

3GPP specifies which bands are reserved for FDD and which for TDD. So depending on the country and the spectrum that has been offered to telecom operators by the regulator, the relevant duplex mode is deployed.

See 3GPP 36.101 table 5.5-1 for the complete list.

The TDD spectrum is cheaper and is more readily available, compared to the rigid duplex distance requirements for FDD. Also, since the DL to UL ratio for most operators fall in the ratio of 9:1, it does make sense to use TDD, especially in a micro cellular and indoor environment.

Hi,

typically operator will see TDD as extra spectrum to offload FDD. Besides that Carrier Aggregation for FDD-TDD is coming in the future - so there would be more TDD deployments.
