How to decrease reselection FACH/PCH to GSM

Hi experts,

Can you help to optimize the way to decrease or eliminate releselection from UMTS (FACH/PCH) to GSM. Actually counter VS.IRATHO.AttOutPSUE is quite high and we need to decrease because is affecting our KPI metrics.

In the next picture you can see just counter VS.IRATHO.AttOutPSUE is missing to decrease, the another ones keep in zero attemps.

There are a couple strategies possible: one is using different reselection parameters for FACH/PCH (SIB4 needs to be enabled) and then optimize these values; or fully disable measurements in FACH, which if I`m not mistaken, is supported in Huawei (your couters look like huawei :P)

Thanks fot your reply marcengo, my questions here is if I disable measurement in FACH, what will be the impact because in FACH we cannot control power, so which kind of message we need to disable?

it all related to traffic balancing, first turnoff GSM measurements from FACH. Then monitor KPIs, if load increases then you need to tune buffer threshold for upswitcing and inactivity times (HS to FACH).

Hi Muhammad,

He objective is about 3G to GSM re-selection not HS to FACH and vise versa state transition.


One of the solutions is balance qQualMin and FDDQMIN from GSM to have minimum pong pong re-selection. TO verify that you simply need to check averange number of SRB only users in bad configuration SRB users are very high due to frequent location update between 2G and 3G.
