I believe the iPhone should come from Apple with certain modification and commercial ones will not work.

I tested iphone connect nemo outdoor
can work;
but i don't test on TEMS

Was it a commercial iphone available in market? which version was it? anything need to be done to open diagnostic port?

TEMS 16.3 now supporting iPhone6, iPhone6 Plus, and iOS 8 .
