Hello to all,

Does anybody know how to "measure" the so called "advertised bandwidth" of a mobile network? Operators often advertise on publicly available "coverage" maps what kind of data rate service they theoretically offer. This theoretical data rate is clearly not the same as the true measured data rate. example: https://www.vodafone.nl/support/netwerk-en-dekking/dekkingskaart.shtml

I'm interested in how to measure the theoretical downlink capabilities of a mobile network. Using a FTP downlink session would not be fair as it's offered data rate has too many dependencies.

Example advertised bandwidth (data rates) are:
2G 80-120Kb/s
3G 3.6Mbit/s
3G 7.2Mbit/s
3G 14.4Mbit/s
3G 28.8Mbit/s
3G 42Mbit/s
etc.

Measurement platform to use is Romes in combination with Network Problem Analyzer and/or Actix.

Kind regards,
Martijn
