Hi Friends,

I have three cell one at 1900 MHz and cells at 2100Mhz. Now if there is a HO from 1900Mhz to 2100MHz Compressed mode will get trigger and vice versa due to irat HO.
But what incase HO is from 2100MHz to 2100MHz, will the Compressed mode will get triggered?
Also let me know the reason if yes, why it will get triggered and if not, why it will not trigger.

Please do let me know..Thanks

Plz be little more specific, are you asking for the soft or hard handoff. do you have multiple carriers in network.

Yes I have multiple carrier in network, and I am not sure about the type of HO, but to be more specific, the HO is from one carrier to other carrier in the same technology, I mean not to GSM.

Or I can say there is two type of HO, one in intra AWS band and one from AWS to PCS band. In which case compressed mode will be trigger?
?

Compressed mode triggered in case of inter-frequency, it can be any scenario UMTS-GSM, UMTS-UMTS(inter frequency) or UMTS-EUTRAN. In case of soft handoff (intra frequency), it will not get triggered.

Do UMTS-UMTS(inter frequency) applies to 2100-1900 as well as 2100-2100? I mean, do inter frequency applies to inter band as well as intra band?

Yes in both case, intra band and inter band, if inter-frequency ho occurs, UE goes to compressed mode.

Thanks erraviesh....actually my conception as same as that of you but one of my colleague came with the opinion that compress mode don't trigger during inter band HO....It will be very helpful if I can get some proof to support this fact.

Compressed mode will get trigger anytime you go from one carrier to a different carrier even if its a different band. Your UE doesn't distinquish band. You do compressed mode when going from 1900 to 850 or 850 to 1900. Your RNC also has to setup for compressed mode near RNC borders. Hope that helps.

No thats fine..Compressed mode will get trigger anytime you go from one carrier to a different carrier even if its a different band..Thats correct...My question was what if we go from one carrier to another carrier in the same band I mean from 1900 to 1900 or 850 to 850...and incase it triggers compressed mode; can you provide some explanation to support the same....
