Dear Experts,
What is the best practice to benchmark different operators for dual mode (2G & 3G) drive with 60 sec call duration and 15 sec interval between calls?

What KPIs should be benchmarked?

Call setup rate,Drop call rate ,EcNo,RSCP, Rx Lev, Quality??

What should be the benchmarking criteria as in this case the number of samples on 2G/3G will differ among operators?

Hi there,

Testing in dual mode requires multiple handsets, but still that depends on the test purpose. If you want to catch the complete user experience, you need to include data in the test - ftp download/upload, ping (latency).
Generally dual mode testing is done in both idle and connected mode. Idle will give you an idea about the coverage and irat reselection areas, connected - for the grade of service. Here are the basic KPIs:

2G-specific KPIs:
RxQual, FER, RxLev

3G-specific KPIs:
EcNo, RSCP, RSSI

Common KPIs:
CSSR, DCR, HOSR (all types of HO), Voice Quality (PESQ, MOS, etc.), areas without coverage, etc.

hope that helped.

Dear Chefo,
Many thanks for reply.

I have a scenario.Suppose dual mode short calls(90sec call with 15 sec interval) drive is done, how will we benchmark EcNo or Rx quality among different operators keeping in mind the difference in %age of 2G/3G samples among competitors?

Can we quantize the ranking in this case.

There's no single KPI that can do this. You need to average the EcNo and RxQual for the time the UE is in 3G or 2G mode respectively, then you show this along with the % of samples in 3G and 2G.

This means we can not quantize ranking say this is 1st,2nd,3rd and so on?

not sure what you mean by "ranking", can you please elaborate?

Dear Chefo,
By ranking I mean which operator is 1st,which one is second and so on?
