Hi,
Can some kindly elaborate Interfrequency Handover and Interfrequency Session Continuity difference in LTE?? Whats significance of release with re-direction.

Interfrequency handover requires the source cell to communicate with the target cell in order to reserve resources. There is signalling via X2/S1 and the data interuption time is minimised.

Iterfrequency session continuity is just an RRC Connection Release with a redirection IE to a target EUARFCN. The target cell does not reserve any resources. As the RRC Connection needs to re-establish there is interuption in the data transfer.

Both procedures can be blind or measurement based (depends on vendor implementation).

mainly session continuity is used from LTE to WCDMA and handover used from LTE to LTE.

if you have coverage overlap the blind method should be considered otherwise measurement based.

also for some vendors if u want Interfrequency handover then u shuld have Interfrequency session continuity license also

Note: for Blind no need to define neighbor relations just freq relation but for measurement neighbor relations are required.
