Dear experts,
Can anybody compare the signal strength UTMS 1900 and GSM 1900 when:
- Same coordinate and height of antenna
- Same tilt and azimuth

difference would be the same as between GSM900 and DCS1800... almost 8 dB loss to 1800/1900 as compared to GSM900

Dear experts,
Can anybody compare the signal strength UTMS 1900 and GSM 1900 when:
- Same coordinate and height of antenna
- Same tilt and azimuth

I would like to compare GSM and UMTS with same band and same antenna. Eg: GSM 900 and UMTS 900, GSM 1900 and UMTS 1900

Have you run the simulation with above configuration in a planning tool with tuned Model ?

If every thing you said is same, then you will have to consider loading. If there is no loading, then coverage of both would be almost same but as loading increases coverage of UMTS will start shrinking while in GSM it would not be affected.

What do you want to compare?
- Coverage of UMTS 1900 for voice vs GSM 1900 for voice? or coverage of UMTS 1900 for data PS 128kbps for example vs GSM 1900 for voice? > Use link budget with adequate sensititivity for each system and service
- Signal strength of the reference signal i.e. the CPICH RSCP for UMTS and the BCCH RxLev for GSM? In that case everything should be the same except the output power (generally 33 dBm for UMTS CPICH and around 42 to 45dBm but dependent on vendor and TRX configuration for GSM BCCH). Also what can be different is the feeder losses if different feeder length or diameter or if Remote Radio Head solutions are deployed for UMTS and for GSM.
