Dear Experts,

We just purchased a second carrier (same band) for our WCDMA netwok, with E******* RBS6000 equipment.

right now on most site we have a 3X1 configuration, so that each sector has only one RU.

We are about to upgrade to a 3X2 configuration and are looking at two alternative:
either use 2 RUs per sector, each with one carrier (also known as RBB22) or keep using only one RU per sector, each with two carriers (also know as RBB12).

What are the pros and cons to each of the options (1/2 RU for 2 carriers).
Which would you recommend and have deployed on your network

Thanks!

Hi! Two RU you need only in case of MIMO deployment or TX diversity with RUS or RUW of 01 generation! With buying HWAC on cell carriers and power you can set up to four carriers per RU.

Thanks Mctest,

Are there any disadvantages to using 4 carriers in the same RU?

Surely in such config you have some losses on coverage or capacity

As Mctest mentioned the only reason for using two RUs per sector is if you want MIMO or Tx diversity capability on you network. If not, then it does not make any sense. The only restriction you will have is the total RU power which is (depending on model and band) around 80 or 100W. So each of your 2 carriers will not be able to be configured for anything higher than 40 or 50W. Of course the vast majority of networks use 20W per carrier and it is unlikely you would configure something as high as 40 or 50W.

Can I configure a RU with two carriers from different bands?

Also what are the benefits of TX diversity and MIMO and how widespread are these features with operators around the world?

No, RUs are band specific. In terms of your MIMO and Tx diversity question you need to do some research..

what are the steps to clean rx diversity

Hi. The advantage of MIMO is that one user can get a theoretical peakrate of 28 Mbps. The issue is that there is not any handheld supporting MIMO.

what is the disadvantge to use 4 carriers pls

When you configure 4 carriers in the same RU, power has to be divided along the 4 carriers. Maybe this could not be a disadvantege but has to be taken into account just if the power for each carrier is not enough according to the link budget used in the radio dimensioning. Also, since power is a scarce resource, there could be a lack of power in case of a low value, i.e. 20W for instance. For loaded cells, 20 W (80W/4) could not be enough. So, in these cases, the two options (without densifying) are change RU to a new one with more power or install additional ones.

if you don't want to lose on coverage then get huawei wcdma DBS 3900.
