View Full Version : Power Reduction to Reduce the Interference

Hi

The worst nightmare for tight frequency network is the interference especially in the high floors. Usually to solve such issue we deploy indoor solutions or femtocells. But what if we have high interference level and can't deploy any relative solutions what we can do ??

Do you think reducing the output power for the all RBS's will help to reduce the total interference ? could this be a logical approach ?

Power control feature can help but not RBS power output

Power control can't help in high interference. On the contrary, power control will increase the power if there is interference. Also the power control works only on the traffic channels.

Hi,
- check frequency plan,
- optimize tilts,
- switch on DTX,
- switch on POWER CONTROL in whole area - that's true: correct parametrized PWRC CTRL decreases interference,
- Implement AMR and then push more traffic to AMR HR - voice will be sent every second frame decreasing interference. AMR HR codecs don't cause noticable degradation of voice quality perceived by users.
AMR gives robust codecs which ensure good MOS at low C/I (RxQual) and allow to reduce transmitted power (agressive Power Control settings for AMR codecs).
- try to limit number of TRX with packet transmission if you implemented EDGE/GPRS on all TRXs, Power Control doesn't work for EDGE/GPRS. Try packet transmission on BCCH only.

Hi Mate,
fantominox (http://www.finetopix.com/member.php?63039-fantominox)'s advices are very useful. You should check frequency plan first. This is very important. If you plan correct, You can reduce interference. you should optimize antenna tilt and azimuth( may be effect). Be careful with Antenna tilt( Electric and Mechanical tilt are many difference) and azimuth. Power transmission of Equipment plan help you reduce interference too. After that you optimize parameter in BSC.
