Data Visual Connector for Mapinfo - realtime mapping

Hi all.

I would like to share nice thing for Mapinfo, which is very helpful for me.

Mapinfo 10.5+ supports tile-servers, like Microsoft Bing, but many good servers are not available with this way.

This app is intended for presentation of mapping info from different sources (not only Bing) via WMS (Web Map Service).

In contrast with tile-servers, WMS is based on specifications of Open GIS Consortium (OGC) and fully supported from Mapinfo 8.0.

Its working as a web-service locally or in the local network. Layers can be customized.

honestly, no idea.

I have never encountered any errors with this tool.
Please try again. Disable firewall, if any.
If it won't be successful, please attach snaps with the error and your steps before you get this error.

I have already tested it. It's good. Thank you so much.
Maybe croleg (http://www.finetopix.com/member.php?5730-croleg) have wrong with Server URL. I had this problem and fixed it.

I Run StartServer.bat from program folder- in system tray abble icon.
It will be available at the http://localhost:8089/
Im OPEN WMS i create new server with http://localhost:8089/
then mapinfo 20 sec loading and give error.
What are you write in "Server URL"?

If you can not show Google or Bing layers In MI less than 11 due to 'unsupported projection' ("Please select supported projection"), it most likely means that you will need to add this row

"Popular Visualization CRS\p3857", 10, 157, 7, 0

under

"Popular Visualization CRS\p3785", 10, 157, 7, 0

in the MAPINFO.PRJ and restart the MI. This action will introduce EPSG:3857 to MI and evything should work just fine after this. In MI 11+ this projection is already included.

Hi, in Mapinfo 11 it works fine for me.

Unfortunately, i don't have your version of mapinfo so I'm not able to check.

If 11.5.2 doesnot have so major improvements which you really need, maybe my advice to you will be to downgrade to 11.0 and try again.

I tried this DVC in Mapinfo8 and MI11, but no success...
I can started the Cassindev server, what appears ok in the taskbar.
But when I try to connect from Mapinfo I ger the error:
"The following error was issued while attempting to access the WMS server: The system cannot find the file specified..."

The computer is connected to the internet, normally ! :-)

I have the same error if I try to connect to the free http://www.osmgb.org.uk/osm-gb-wiki/index.php/WMS server.
From here i can download also the capabilities file:
http://www.osmgb.org.uk/ogc/wms?Version=1.1.1&Service=WMS&Request=GetCapabilities

But what to do with this file ? Where to place it ? Because this is missing from Mapinfo !

Can you try this osmbg in your computer ? It Works ?

Hi, Adika.

Actually, i saw this error message before. It appears usually, when CassiniDev is not started :)

Try to do following:

1. Shut down mapinfo
2. Start CassiniDev
3. Start mapinfo.
4. Add it to WMS.
5. Inform us about results :)

PS. OSM-GB is also working normally, but this is nothing to do with DVC, use it as usual WMS server. See below in the screenshot.

Dear friends,

DVC is working with Global Mapper just same good as with Mapinfo.

And this is not weird, because DVC is just another one way to get data from some WMS servers, so all GIS software, supporting WMS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Map_Service), will work with it.

Now I am gonna explain how to connect it to Global Mapper (I've got now v14).

1. Open File-> Download online imagery/topo/terrain maps.
2. Add New Source.
3. Select WMS in the dropdown menu.
4. Insert http://localhost:8089/ into 'Server URL' box.
5. Select the layer you're interesed in.
6. Ok
7. Ok
8. Connect.
9. you've done - corresposding layer will appear in the map window.

Hi ! After a reset, now is working also the opengb wms server and also the CassiniDev local server.
Finally I got googlemaps in Mapinfo11.

I would better change russian names of the layers in the plugins.file, so your guys won't suffer from this crazy language stuff.
I will also change the settings in the layers, so for instance name of cities will appear in English, not Russian.

only problems is the ??????? in the type of maps and the country names are is Russian and original language in the map if there is any way to let it only in the original language it would be wondrfull

But can't get Google, OpenStreetMaps or Bing to show up on Mapinfo 9.
I guess the projection is not supported, only on v9.5, already tried to add in the .prj file.

The result was nice, The language also changed to english.
I try this on my mapinfo V11.0 r15 but it was so heavy load..Always not responding if i zoom.

I would like to also share with you one trick, which we are using in our team. We've got a LAN in our office with the server (with databases etc.).
At this server we are also running IIS (Web-server from Microsoft).
So instead of running DVC on each local computer, we are running it on the server, and still not in usual way - we are running it as a web-service, controlling by IIS. Just few settings to be done.
If IIS is setup to run automatically, you will always have your own customized WMS-server in your LAN!

Actually, it perfectly works on mapinfo 12.5 (just checked by myself).

@dacoder, just rename your folder to 'wms'.

Open Startserver.bat and you will understand what to do :)

1. 3 layers of ARCGIS provider
2. 2 layers of RosReestr provider - will be highly useful for russian users.
3. 14 (!) fancy layers of MapBox provider.

Important note for MapBox. Before use, you need to register at mapbox.com and get your own ACCESS_TOKEN, which you need to put to <plugins.config> file:

I think that some of local map server was broken.
The projection was different from the original data.
From testing some of the map server, I find that:
Bing map server correct.
Google map server was broken(Just showing a sea).

Maybe you could find the problem.
