The purpose of this document is to explain how layered cell structures are implemented.
The main goal of a Layered System is to solve the capacity problems of a network through a much more flexible and tighter re-use of the available frequencies in the lower layers. The location of the low-level (underlay) sites will be determined by the capacity and traffic requirements, offering the capacity where it is needed. The way it is implemented is extremely flexible as multiple layers can be defined in the system such as umbrella, macrocell, microcell, minicell, concentric cell or picocell layers.
