Hi, unfortunatetly there is a bug (or somothing like that) in S2 who doesn't allow 3er party apps to measur. I already tried all the softwares availables in the Android Market and none works with 2G/3G.
More info: http://opensignalmaps.com/blog/2011/09/15/problems-with-the-galaxy-s2-help-us/
Anyway, if you expect something like TEMS pocket or Nemo for Android, there isn't nothing like that yet. Only http://android.swissqual.com/ but I think that is not available in the forum yet, and cost 3k.

Hi!

Most of free applications are based on 3GPP standardized AT commands.
They work on any phone (akhm). You can get CID, BCCH/BSIC, signal strength, network.
But, there are NO standardized AT commands to read neighbor cells and other information
of interest to readers of this forum.

So, SW has to be developed for particular phone, based on "undocummented" AT commands.
Ah, AT*EM commands for TI chip used on Open Moko: we can do magic.

It seems to me Sony published (or it was ****ed) some undoccumented commands,
same for HTC.
TEMS, Swissqual etc have access to radio chipset, so they can get additional information from Sony/HTC Android phones.
Thus, they can do something out of this information.

Maybe Samsung is using different chipsets in SG2: not all SG2 are same?
And even commands to get data for their "service menu" is nowhere published.

Bottom line: As soon is we (community) get description of additional AT commands or other API to get
proper information from Android phone, it will be used and applications written. There is enough of
radio engineers with proper skills.

And yes, then I will start using Android terminal.

p.s. I really can not make a call if I do not know those basic data. Making call without knowing scrambling code?

Hi bro,

Just for your reference, Samsung uses an other API, and whats the reason why you don't get neighbours. I faced same situation with SNS.

By the way Qualcomm Chipsets are only usefull if your able to enable DIAG-Port, and use Wireshark/ qpst. But I'm also stuck there!

SGS2 has an Infineon chipset. Qualcomm chipsets are used in mid-range Android Samsung phones.

I use RF Signal Tracker and works fine. It also able to export signal plots as KML.

Hi

How do you know SGS2 has an Infineon chipset?
Any document you could share to see that?

I asked the right people :)

SGS comes in two flavours depending on sale market: Q in US and Infineon in Europe. I don't know anything about Asia.

Any updates here? I'm also curious how to identify which chipset is in a phone?

Are there any utilities (command-line or otherwise) that can be used? For example, after connecting to an adb shell, I can use the command getprop to get a long list of properties but none of them mention the chipset.

If it's data speed I use "Network Speed" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=netspeed.pt&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIm5ldHNwZWVkLnB0Il0.

There are some other useful commands that I've found that you can run on the adb shell. They don't tell chipset information but there is a lot of other stuff there. Check these out:
