Hello Guys,

Please, i'm having a problem understanding some KPI's especially for traffic in 3G...the traffic seems to be calculated in kbytes and i sincerely dont know why (still new to 3G).

However, i'm trying to convert some data for voice to its equivalent in erlangs so I AM BEGGING for help with the attached....i would also APPRECIATE any explanations as to its derivation and the calculation below;

ATM using AAL1

1 Erlang = 655 KB cells/hour assuming a 44 byte payload

= 182 cells/sec

ATM using AAL5

1 Erlang = 600 KB cells/hour assuming a 47 byte payload

= 167 cells/second

Thank you all as you help out as always. :(

Hi,

Actually I dont understand what u said. I dont think there any ralation between payload traffic and AAL.

In term of Erlang traffic, 1 erlang/cell/hour means number of average user in that cell is 1 in that hour.

If there is 1 voice erlang, I assume Payload traffic (kbyte) = 12.2 (kbps) *3600 (s)/8 = 5490 kbytes. But it's not exactly correct, becase Payload traffic volume includes user data, Medium Access Control (MAC) and Radio Link Control (RLC) header information and retransmissions and it is much impacted by DTX feature.

Thanks for ur time and explanation...did you check my attachment?..those are traffic indicators gotten from the NPO in ALU

Do u mind explaining how I can get true voice and data traffic for a particular UMTS cell or NodeB?..

Hello.. so sorrry but I m beginer here and i cant donwload files.. but i can explaine.

I understand that you want to convert erl to data (Mbps).. you nee to do the follow:

For example you has 1472.8725 erl and you cant to convert to Mbps

Mbps = (Erl * 64) / 1024
Mbps = (1472.8725 * 64)/1024 = 92 Mbps

If you want, send me you email or post you email and i can send a file on excel like example...

Regards

Hi frangiogt,

As you know One erlang is the equivalent of one call (including call attempts and holding time) in a specific channel for 3600 seconds in an hour. It means It does not care about what kind of the channel, either 12kbps or 64kbps.

But when you need to convert from erlang to kbytes you should consider about what kind of channel carrying traffic. It's not the same for all channels.

Hi,

I'm not a expert. But I think cant convert a correctly from kbytes to erlang due to some impact I mentioned below.
however, if you want to get voice erlang you can get directly from erlang counter.

hello, i think in UMTS there

Traffic (erl)*12.2 kbit/sec.*3600/8 = Kbyte

12.2 AMR bit rate

if video

eraling *64 k bit/sec *3600/8
