How do we improve the paging performencw

1. Do you have paging congestion? Check LA sizes + stats

2. If you have 2g/3g network, introduce comon LA

3. check time between pages. Sometimes it is too short

4. Make sure pages are send over the air several times
(some vendors cells send pages twice, if there is capacity)

5. reduce unneeded pages from SMSc to unreachable terminals

6. check formulas: it should be (Answer_to_page1+answer_to_page2)/nr_of_page1

7, introduce Gs or DTM on BSS

8. increase hysteresis for idel mode cell change

Assuming you do not have some misconfiguration in the network, of course.

Depends on vendor.
E/// has BSS statistics showing paging congestion on different parts of BSS
(BSC, RBS). You can see paging status of the cell with OMT as well.
(we use this to select combined or non-combined BCCH).

SMS: retry scheme as set in SMSC. SMS stats. SS7 monitoring equipment.
We failed to learn it from E/// MSC stats: years ago we did with special patch in the MSC,
and half of unanswered pages were generated by SMSc.
