View Full Version : Problem: Smart phones & BB RSS Drop

Help E******* P7 Guruss

In my network the Smart phones and BB Rss at the screen drop gradually to -102 and increase again. This is not constant, and do not have a fix cycle. We can see this with the iphone, BB but not with nokia E63 or N95.

Any ideas about this problem.. My bosses are pushing horrible and some eng are implying that EcNo between -12 and -15 are causing this rss fluctuation on the phones..

same problem here specially with the iPhone.........it drops in no-service for few seconds and then get back to service mode

ok..

But this happens when you touch the Iphone around the antenna. Good Intell but we choose 2 carriers and leave two phones
1. Samsung Galaxy carrier A
1. Iphone 4 Carrier A
2. Samsung Galaxy Carrier B
2. Iphone 4 Carrier B

Carrier B the rss a couple of times drop from -52 to -92 not at the same time. But the carrier A did not

Has to be something a setting within the network.. Bcz the ecno was changing for the best cell but with in -4 to -10 in carrier B but carrier a the ecno was around -5 to -9

I met similar problem in our network with Iphone 4, when you have in active set 3 cells and drop hapends on one cell, after that phone drops totaly.
...any suggestion friends?:(

Well we did a trace of the BB phone and find out that the bars are affected by Quality.. If the EcNo goes below -12 or -15 the phone program interprets lower SS and change the amount of bars.

So now we are pushing to reduce EcNo of the area.. Any Ideas..

1. Make Every node Cpich = 330
2. REduce Cpich in some sites to 300 and add tilts in others
3...

Any ideas? Pls helppp..

You should be careful about EcNo. the definition is EcNo_dB = RSCP_dBm - RSSI_dBm
this means that if you simply increase your pilot power (as you say every node 330) this means that you increase RSCP but you increase RSSI by the same amount so EcNo is still bad...

in order to improve EcNo pilot REDUCTION and downtilting is what is needed. you need to keep overlapping between cells to a minimum

finally, there is a special case where EcNo is bad but there is nothing you can do about this. this is when the UE is camping to a heavy loaded cell (e.g. there is lots of DL HSDPA traffic). in this case the RSSI is dominated by the Tx power of the cell (remember because cell is heavily loaded Tx power could go up to 100%). as a result EcNo could drop to a very low value.

this low value, however is not a problem for network performance because DL own-cell transmissions are highly orthogonal. Nonetheless, iPhone (and for that matter all phones) will show very poor network quality (and small number of bars...)
