I am working on my research paper and have some basic doubts in the 3G network deployment in India. Any help will be appreciated.

1. How is the voice and data traffic estimated on 3G network?
a. Is it based on Erlang tables or some other approach is used?
b. What are the typical data rates used for different services? How is the data rate converted to Erlang?
2. Can one use Cobb-Douglas function for UMTS subscriber base prediction based on number of channels and the number of BTS installed?
a. If so, what is the value of “Technical factor”, “Spectrum elasticity” and “BTS elasticity” in the equation for 5 MHz and 10 MHz spectrum @ 2.1 GHz?
3. Is there a separate allocation of voice and data channels? How is it done? (Any industry average for number of voice vs data channels?)
a. Is the channel further divided in slots? Any difference in the number of slots on voice and data channels?
b. What is the channel size for UMTS? (200 KHz as in GSM?)
c. How is the channel size / slots related to data rate?
4. How many extra towers will be required for rolling out the network at 5 MHz as compared to that at 10 MHz? (All India / Delhi circle)
a. What is the extra CapEx required? We estimate it at 2.3x
b. Is there any impact on OpEx per tower?
5. What is the cost of radio equipment for 3G in India?
6. What is the guard band requirement for UMTS?
a. How does it vary between 5 MHz and 10 MHz?
7. What is the incremental 3G APRU being used in the industry?
We estimate it at $ 1.4 per month (INR 64)

Thanks a ton in advance.
