Hi
Anyone know how to determine Abis link congestion and utilization? Is there any formula or counters in M2000 that helps determine it? We are using BSC6900 btw.

Thanks

Dear I can suggest this formula:

TCH Availability
= {[Mean Number of Available Channels (TCHF) (900/850/810 Band)]
+ [Mean Number of Available Channels (TCHF) (1800/1900 Band)]
+ [Mean Number of Available Channels (TCHH) (900/850/810 Band)]
+ [Mean Number of Available Channels (TCHH) (1800/1900 Band)]} x {100%}/
{[Mean Number of Dynamically Configured Channels (TCHF) (900/850/810 Band)]
+ [Mean Number of Dynamically Configured Channels (TCHF) (1800/1900 Band)]
+ [Mean Number of Dynamically Configured Channels (TCHH) (900/850/810 Band)]
+ [Mean Number of Dynamically Configured Channels (TCHH) (1800/1900 Band)]}
RR307 = (AR3027A + AR3027B + AR3028A + AR3028B) x 100%/(AR3017A + AR3017B + AR3018A +AR3018B)

Aditional to this you can monitor online with LMT channel utilization

if the abis mode is Fixed Abis :
1.TCH congestion on abis doesn't exist the congestion only on air interface (because every TS on air interface is fixedly bonded with TS on abis interface)

2. congestion on idle timeslots (which used for CS3,CS4 and EDGE) can be determined by the counter (R9109:Number of Unsuccessful Application Attempts of Abis Timeslot Because of no Idle Timeslot) in the measurement function ABIS resources capability measurements

3. congestion on RSL links can be known by the measurement in package LAPD Link Measurement at the BTS

if the abis mode is flexAbis

1. you may have TCH congestion on abis although there is free resources in air interface (in case the flex timeslots on abis are not enough) so u have to know if you have congestion by using the measurement in package BTS FlexAbis Measurement per BTS

2.regarding congestion on CS3 , CS4 and EDGE since exactly the same resources will be used for both voice and EDGE same above counters will be used

3.for congestion on RSL link will use the package LAPD link measurements

Hi mohyedeen,
Please tell how to know which abis mode is being used.

Thanks

In the M2000 there's a counter tx peak/tx average/rx peak/rx average. you can use that to monitor the bandwidth utilisation of the E1s (Abis links).

for specifics, check the BSC6900 performance counter manual.

Hi
You mean these counters?
T7669:Average TX Packet Rate of IPPM
T7671:Peak TX Packet Rate of IPPM
T7673:Average RX Packet Rate of Peer End of IPPM
T7675:Peak RX Packet Rate of Peer End of IPPM

Thanks

sounds similar. check the performance counter manual for the 6900.

please describe your abis :

1. Full IP
2. E1

Hi,
you can find in M2000 Abis congestion for Flex mode :
use these counters:

RR2751: SITE_8K_ASS_FAIL_RATE
Congestion Ratio of Dynamic Assign Abis Resource (8K)

RR2752: SITE_16K_ASS_FAIL_RATE
Congestion Ratio of Dynamic Assign Abis Resource (16K)

thanks
