Compact Multiband Antenna for Handheld Devices

Abstract—A compact multiband antenna is presented for wireless handheld
devices. The proposed design uses two folded L-shaped strips connected
by a short stub and fed from a common excitation. Compared to
other available multiband antenna designs, the proposed design has simpler
structure, smaller size, and higher mode independence.

A Low-Profile Planar Monopole Antenna for Multiband Operation of Mobile Handsets

Abstract—A novel planar monopole antenna with a very
low profile (antenna height less than 0.04 times the operating
wavelength in the free space) and capable of multiband operation
is proposed. The proposed antenna has a planar rectangular
radiating patch in which a folded slit is inserted at the patch’s
bottom edge. The folded slit separates the rectangular patch into
two subpatches, one smaller inner subpatch encircled by the
larger outer one. The proposed antenna is then operated with
the inner subpatch resonating as a quarter-wavelength structure
and the outer one resonating as both a quarter-wavelength and
a half-wavelength structure. The proposed antenna, 12 mm in
height and 30 mm in width has been constructed, and the obtained
bandwidths cover the global system for mobile communication
(890–960 MHz), digital communication system (1710–1880 MHz),
personal communication system (1850–1990 MHz), and universal
mobile telecommunication system (1920–2170 MHz) bands. Details
of the proposed design and obtained experimental results are
presented and discussed.

Planar Hexa-Band Inverted-F Antenna for Portable Device Applications

Abstract—This letter proposes an internal multiband inverted-F
antenna (IFA) design for mobile device applications. The proposed
antenna is comprised of a dual-band main inverted-F resonator
and two parasitic elements to broaden the bandwidth. The operating
bands are able to cover GSM900/DCS/PCS/UMTS2100/
WiMAX /HIPERLAN2/IEEE802.11a/b/g. This work performs a
simulation by HFSS to design the antenna and fabricates a practical
structure. The measured data compared with the simulation
results show good agreement. Since the occupied volume measures

Design of a Multiband Antenna for Mobile Handset Operations

Abstract—A compact internal antenna is proposed for
GSM/GPS/DCS/PCS/UMTS/Bluetooth/WLAN/WiFi/WiMAX applications.
The proposed antenna is comprised of a loop antenna
and a monopole antenna. The antenna system shows wide
multi-operation band as well as good radiation patterns and small
volume. The antenna can be printed on the system circuit board
of the mobile phone and short-circuited to the system ground
plane to form a loop-type structure. A comparison with that of
the existing antennas showed that wide impedance bandwidth of
the proposed structure can be achieved without increasing the
implementation complexity
