What is perfect measurement for UMTS?
Scanner or UE
What are the Advantages of Scanner?

Both.
With scanner, you really see what is going on on chip level.
Coverage, overshooting, pilot pollution: everything needed for antenna optimization
and interference control.
Scanner shall have a bit better dynamics as UE, so you can decode more pilots.

With UE you see upper layers and how network "smells" for users.
Handovers, timers, DC etc.

Withour ROMES, we would never managed to tune our antennas
and fix mistakes.

Without TEMS, we are blind on network tuning beside purely radio propagation/interference.

For any non-trivial troubleshooting we need both.

Most used antennas has 0dBi gain , but you have additional loses due to feeder length.
PCTel See-gull scanners comes with 0dBi Smarteq Minimag Antenna.

Smarteq Minimag Antenna
This is a magnetic mount antenna with 0 dBd gain. It covers the frequencies 890 to 960 MHz and 1710 to 2170 MHz.
The antenna is delivered with a Smarteq RG-174 cable whose loss at 2100 MHz is specified at 1.47 dB per meter cable maximum. The total length of the cable is 2.6 m. In the following table is shown the total cable attenuation at various frequencies:
Frequency
(MHz) Total Attenuation of Cable (dB)
900 2.34
1800 3.46
1900 3.61
2000 3.70
2100 3.82

PCTel OP216 Antenna
This is a magnetic mount antenna with +4 dBi gain. It covers the frequency range 1700 to 2700 MHz.
The antenna is delivered with a 12 ft (3.66 m) coaxial cable called Pro Flex Plus 195. In the table below is shown the total cable attenuation at various frequencies:
Frequency
(MHz) Total Attenuation of Cable (dB)
1700 2.15
1800 2.22
1900 2.22
2000 2.33
2100 2.50
2200 2.50
2300 2.55
2400 2.78
2500 2.82
2600 2.82
2700 2.90

Is there any gain in Scanner Antenna?

With scanner, we use external omnidirectionl antenna usually.
We focus on pure radio propagation/patterns, and this is the way to get info.

When troubleshooting, we use directionl antenna to get more details in the specific location.

With TEMS (Ue) we do it with antenna in the car, to be as close to user experience as possible.
