I doubt that which computer I am going to buy.

I am thinking to buy i5 processor, 4gb ram, 1gb graphic card.

Hi maasricht,

I'm using the same configuration as you mentioned for Actix and I'm pleased with the performance.

Make sure that the HDD will be at 7200rpm.

I'm using Core i5 480M (2.66MHz) but now the new Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs are available and probably it is better to use one in your configuration.

As Rooster[BG] said, the hight rpm of the HDD is better, all this application (actix, mapinfo, atoll) use sql server so need fastest access to the HDD. Asset use oracle an doesn't matter what you buy is always slow on windows. For portability i5 with 4gb ram and 500GB hdd, big graphic card not really necessary(512 it's ok). alternatives thinkpad T400 or similar and latitud for dell.

that's depends on how much money you have, I use Lenovo X201 tablet intel Core i7, 160 GB Hard Disk SSD(Solid State Disk). 8GB RAM. 8 Cells Batteries. Touch Screen windows 7 64bits. 3G/HSPA Goby WAN card interface, and intel WIMAX/Wifi interface. is About $3000 dollars, but you never are going to have problems as Engineer. Mainly when you use Higher resolution maps less than 5m, and propagration models that Use intelligent Ray tracing deterministic prediction. I strongly recommends this configuration.

Thanks for reply.

I tried to find Dell Latitude, however I couldn't find.

I bought HP Elitebook 8440p (i7 processor - 4gb ram).

I installed Actix and Atoll. Both of them are ok.

I think you need lenovo T series or Dell with core i5 or core i7 for better performance (but corei7 very expansive), 4G ram DDR3, 500GB HDD.
Mac's laptop i think incompatible with those software.

Dear Croleg, maasricht,
Can you please explain me how to run Actix on 64 bit? I suppose there is an alternate to using the edgespro1 and the SENTEMUL2007.

My separate post regarding Actix on 64 bit is at:

only trust HP or IBM/Lenovo for these softwares. Dell is not good at all with heavy processing softwares (atleast thats what my experience is about Dell)

Guys,

All those mentioned notebooks are widescreen (16:10 or 16:9) versions.
I have a widescreen (16:10) ASUS field notebook and found it's not practical for this kind of activity. My thoughts you must find something with traditional 4:3 or even better 5:4 aspect ratio.
