There are plenty of documents available in this forum. search for LTE.
For specific "signalling procedure", there is LTE Signalling book has been posted in this forum. Also you check check 3GPP specs "23401-8b0" for CN releated signalling.

In LTE the tracking area updates includes sending the TAI list, rather than only the TAI. The UE is assigned a group of TAI's in the TAI list. TA update does not happen while the UE is moving from one TA to another in the same TAI list. How is this advantageous? Anyone?

I got some answers to my questions. There are two schemes of assigning Tracking Areas:
1) Multiple TA scheme, whereby mobile is given multiple TAs. Here the tracking area updates are reduced, but the paging load could be higher.
2) Overlapping TA scheme, whereby certain cells could belong to multiple Tracking areas. However the UE is given only one TA. This scheme is useful to reduce the paging load as well as the number of tracking area updates, especially for mobile users.
