Gb is used to connect BSC to SGSN. Its purpose is to get acces to the GPRS network.
To implement Gb interface you have to do:
Defining subsystems 192 (bssgs) in both elements.
Defining GT analysis in both N.E. to exchange signalling messages
Defining which LAC belong to which MSC in SGSN. This is mandatory for processing combined GPRS-GSM messages.

In gprs ,there is only two thing is mandotary to workout..
1. gb link betwenn bsc and SGSN
2. Gs link between msc and SGSN

in gb link there is also Gd link we have to define which is for data part and there is one link which is for signalling between bsc and SGSN it is Gd link with Lapd protcol.and anothere thing is that for every bsc u have to give DLCI which is same at both end bsc and SGSN...and most important is on which timeslot u r defining gb link must be same at SGSN side.

But as I known there is few(or no) country using Gs Interface.
Some E******* Engineers say that if enable the Gs Interface in some high traffic network will increase the SGSN traffic and in some cases will make the SGSN down.
So I want to know is there someone have some experiencein running with enabled Gs Interface network.

Hi!

Gs is used to page GSM terminals while they are connected to PS domain (during active TBF,
they do not listen to the paging ch.).
Gs was not used a lot for three reasons:
- O&M nigtmare to keep VLR/SGSN consistent during upgrades etc
- fun with Gs and SGSN/MSCs in pools
- nobody really needed it until smartphones come around.
- (some people claim even smartphones do not need it).

Today, it is DTM mostly used instead of Gs. More managable, better user experience.

Yes, you can find Gs in use, but not many operators does it,
and those who use are not very hot on it. It is active because they bought it.

It depend on each operator and most of them deployed Gs interface.
Gs interface is the connection signaling only between VLR and SGSN for reduce signaling for Core network. You can image that. If no have Gs interface. MS must Location Update with MSC/VLR in CS domain separate with Routing Area Update with SGSN in packet domain. If we deploy Gs, MS have make only one update procedure only.

So, Gs interface is for reduce signalling !!!

Exactly, Gs in the link between VLR with SGSN. But, nowadays, MSC and VLR is build-in together. So, some people may be confuse in this point !
