Priority between 900 and 1800 Band.

In e*******,how Priority between 900 and 1800 Band is fixed.What is the use of fixing priority betweeb 900 & 1800 band.What is advantage of 900 and 1800 band.

Hello,

Not quite sure about what "priority is fixed" implies here but I can point out some facts here:

GSM1800 has less coverage footprint than GSM900
GSM900 therefore therefore can cover subscribers beyond what GSM1800 can
In MBC configuration it's advisable to

have GSM900 on Underlaid Layer accomodating the BCCH, SDCCH and PDCH's.
let GSM1800 accomodate TCH Traffic (Voice) only thereby boosting cell capacityIf "priority" implies pushing traffic to a preferred band, then there are various parameters to achieve that:


Idle Mode Parameters: e.g. ACCMIN, CRO, PT, etc
Dedicated Mode Parameters: e.g. LAYER, LAYERTHR,
MBC related: e.g. LOL, SCLD, DTCB etc

I have seen in a drive test that at about 1 Km from a site,voice call is on 1800 band with poor quality but 900 band is empty.Why call is on 1800 band but not in 900 Band that has more coverage and more good quality.

You will need to increase the accmin and the rxlevmin to have the users camp more on 900 band.

If it is MBC site check LOL parameter value and traffic distribution priority between bands.

suggest to reduce value layerthr , bsrxmin & msrxmin to reduce coverage dedicated in Band 1800

Lets do below activites:

In MBC(Multi Band Cell): Check LOL parameter and DTCB in 900 and 1800(compare with another sites)

Single Band: Check LAYERTHR parameter for 1800 some times by reducing this value problem will solve. Seems you have dragging on this cell also check neighbor definition between this 2 cells
