Free GIS Data Base

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for Free GIS Data Base (Terrain Maps). Does someone knows where I can find it in the Internet?

I remember someone posted here in Finetopix a website where we could download some terrain maps from everywhere in the Planet. I tried to search it here, but I'm not finding it.

Can someone help with this?

Take look here Index of /srtm/version2_1/SRTM3 (http://dds.cr.usgs.gov/srtm/version2_1/SRTM3/)
You can use it directly to GlobalMapper (http://www.finetopix.com/mapping-tools/3481-new-global-mapper-v-10-02-a.html) tool and Radio mobile tool.

however the ASTER data is very "raw" with a lot of added artifacts (some of them very large) that should not be there. So check the ASTER data carefully against SRTM before using it.

You are often better off using processed SRTM data, see my next post.

this group has done a lot of processing to the SRTM data, including fixing the half pixel offset error and integrating other data bases.
