Hi All,

Discussion about calculation of Cell id in 3G.

Usually Cell id in 3G as calculated as UCID: RNCID+C-ID· T
There are two parameters o Cell Identity : Is derived from System Information Block (SIB)3 and more information from 10.3.2.2 (25.331)
o RNC Id : Is derived from RRC Connection Setup (or) RadioBearSetup (or) RadioBearer Reconfiguration Downlink message from NW

·

Uusally SIB 3 is read by UE only when it is in IDLE not during CS or PS call.

It’s not possible to get Cell Id for 3G correctly as UE may be connected to 1 or more Radio links with network during connected mode (i.e.) UE is performing an CS call or PS ca

So How can UE calculate the exact Cell id correctly during IDLE and Connected?

Thanks & Regards
Mahe

UE does not identify CellID in dedicated mode. Scrambling Code is unique for a cell. Cells are identifies by SC only in dedicated mode.

Hello there,

Just a quick hint, why not try to search for "UMTS system information" on google books. I usually get a wealth of information there.

:)

But You know the answer my friend. Yes it is in SysInfo type3 where you have "cell identity" area with serving cell ID.
